Remember this post about Rylee walking with Lightening? (It always amazes me how much they are alike when I look back at photos or videos of Rylee at his age.) Rylee was just over 10 months old when I posted those videos (and barely walking on her own) and Jayden is 9 months old today. I'm sure we can expect just as much trouble from him as we had from Ry. (Probably more since he has a well-experienced older sister to guide him along!)

Cruising with Lightening McQueen
Jayden has been walking along the furniture for a few weeks now, so we decided to bring Lightening McQueen inside and clean it off for him. We thought it would still be awhile before he would really be able to push it around on his own, but today he surprised us all! Look at this kid cruise:

Baby Kisses
Jayden has learned to blow kisses. It would be really sweet except that he only does it when 1) he has done something he knows he wasn't supposed to do or 2) he has a messy diaper.
Wow! Look at all those diapers!
Most days we have three diaper-wearing kids in our house so we always have a lot of diapers on hand. Last night as we were restocking all of our diaper stashes, Rylee said to me (as if she were talking about candy or ice cream), "Wow! Look at all those diapers!"

The Last of Christmas
Christmas evening we went to Grandma and Grandpa's house for yummy Christmas dinner and to open even more presents. We all got spoiled even more from my parents and Mike and Suzanne. By this time Jayden had the hang of present opening - he barely tried to eat any paper at all! Also, Rylee had learned the idea of presents being "to" someone and "from" someone else. She has outgrown the stage where she thinks every present is to her, but seems to have entered the stage where every present is from her (even the ones that really are to her). We read each tag before opening a gift and it would go something like this:
It was a fantastic day and we had so much fun playing, eating and relaxing with our family. It probably would have been a "perfect" day if I hadn't been such a mean mom and insisted on fixing Jayden's hair. (Side note: About 30 minutes before dinner on Christmas Eve I decided that I was sick of Jayden's hair being in his eyes, and that I didn't want him to have "Bieber hair" in all of our Christmas pictures. So we stripped him down, sat him in the bathtub and pulled out the hair scissors so I could trim his bangs. He wouldn't hold still and I was stressed about getting it done before we had to leave. Yes, I should have known better. But at least his hair wasn't in his eyes for pictures, right? Chad threw some gel in it and managed to hide my hack job well enough for the evening.) By the end of the second day of looking at Jayden's massacred hair I couldn't stand it anymore. So we borrowed my dad's clippers and Jayden got his first full-head haircut. (Merry Christmas, buddy!) I promise I made it up to him after and he is so handsome now!!
Over the next week we all got at least some time off work. Poor daddy had to go in for a few days while the rest of us played. On Friday, though, Chad's parents drove up to Logan to see what the kids got for Christmas and take us all to dinner. It was great to spend time with them and Rylee loved having Grandma Joycie's attention all to herself! They brought Rylee the hugest coloring book I have ever seen and it is hilarious to see her crawling around on the floor coloring it. They also brought a big bag of canned jams, juices and peaches (yummm!) for us to enjoy. It was so nice of them to make the trip up here to spend time with just us and treat us to a delicious dinner!
Christmas is so much more fun with kids! I think it might be even more fun to come out with my kids now to see what Santa brings than it was when I was a kid myself. And Rylee is already making plans for next year's decorations!

Christmas Morning
Christmas morning was very relaxing at our house this year. Jayden woke up first ready for breakfast, so Chad got up and fed him while Rylee and I slept. Finally they decided to wake us up to see what Santa brought. Chad sent them both tromping down the hall and into the living room while I waited to take pictures. Rylee was very excited over her pretty pink trunk even though she had no idea what was inside it yet. She always makes the best surprised faces when she opens presents! Jayden needed a little guidance to the right pile (he was really obsessed with Chad's new socks all morning long!) but we finally got him to check out his new toys.
We wanted to drag Christmas out as long as possible so we all sat and played with our Santa presents for a while before we opened anything else. Jayden quickly lost interest with his toys and went back to daddy's socks, so Rylee decided to show some enthusiasm over his presents for him!
Once the kids started to get restless we decided to open the presents under the tree. I actually restrained myself this year and enjoyed watching them open their presents, rather than being stuck behind the camera all day. I took a few pictures and then spent the rest of the morning just playing! Jayden got tired half way through and had to have a little nap to recharge before he finished opening his presents, but that didn't slow Rylee down. We had a great morning of playing and relaxing. Our family and friends definitely spoiled us rotten this year!
After plenty of playing toys, watching movies and munching on treats we got ready for church. We went to Grandma and Grandpa's ward for the Christmas program, then they came back to our house to see what Santa had left.
It was such an exciting Christmas morning and Rylee was a very good big sister to help Jayden with his presents and show him how his new toys worked! Every year I think that this has to be the best Christmas, then the next year comes along and tops it! I hope it stays that way forever!

Christmas Eve 2011
In true slacker fashion, it is the second week of the new year and I have still not posted anything about Christmas. Well, better late than never, right? (I did promise myself I would get Jayden's first Christmas recorded, no matter how late it is.)
On Christmas Eve Grandma took us all to see the new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. That evening we went to Grandma Great's house for the annual Christmas Eve dinner and gift exchange. Rylee had so much fun playing with all her cousins and even asked to eat downstairs with the other kids rather than sit by us for dinner. Here she is sitting with Ben (he has always been one of her favorites!) waiting to open presents. Anyone who spends much time around Rylee knows how huge this is for her. She is doing so much better around the big groups and less familiar people that used to terrify her.
Rather than exchanging gifts between everyone like we used to (there are now 35 of us, including great-grandkids, plus two more on the way), we decided to just get together for a fun dinner and give presents to Grandma Great. Grandma Great had presents for everyone else to open, too! Rylee was so excited to open hers that she could barely wait for her turn. Jayden was more interested in seeing how his tasted than worrying about what was inside.
Chad and I got a giftcard to Chili's (yumm!) and the kids got new footie jammies! In fact, all the unmarried kids got jammies. It was quite a sight to see them all lined up in their new sleepwear. (We missed Dawson while they were enjoying the nice weather in San Diego, though. Maybe we can photoshop his jammie shot in!)
(I had to get a picture of just Randi. You can't beat a 16-year-old in footie jammies!)
I even got Rylee, Jayden and Grandma Great all in the same spot to take a picture. (The first one was the perfect "funny face" picture, even though they weren't really trying to!)
After leaving Grandma Great's house, we came home to get ready for bed so Santa could come! First Rylee and Jayden got to open their Christmas Eve present from mom and dad (another fun tradition that we have started in our own little family). More jammies!!
(I think Jayden must have been expecting something better. He didn't seem all that impressed by another box filled with jammies. Rylee was enthusiastic enough for both of them, though!)
After putting on their new jammies, we put out the traditional milk and cookies for Santa then read The Night Before Christmas. They were both so excited that I thought it would be hours before they fell asleep. (They passed out as soon as they hit the bed, though!) We did manage to get a good picture of their Christmas jammies before they went to bed. (P.S. It took 15 shots to get this one good one.) Aren't they so cute, though? This might just top the charts as my new favorite picture of these guys together!!
