Bear Lake Camping Trip

Last weekend we took Rylee for a camping trip to Bear Lake. The Alderman's were there for the weekend, too, so we got to spend an afternoon playing on the beach with them! Rylee loved the sand and water (once she got used to the freezing cold!), but didn't do quite as well camping as she did last time. We ended up coming home a day early so we could be in our own home and our own beds (and cause it is easier to ignore Rylee's temper tantrums at home). Next time we will know better than to try to camp on a week with two InstaCare trips. But I did get some cute pictures of Rylee playing on the beach. As usual, I took way too many, but couldn't decide which ones to put up so I just posted them all.

Happy Father's Day

For Father's Day, Rylee gave Daddy some hats. She has learned to bring stuff to us, so when I handed her Chad's present and told her to take them to Daddy she ran out to the living room with them held out in front of her so he could see them. She was very cute!

First Word!!

Rylee has her first word!! It may not seem like a very normal first word for a baby, but for those of you who have spent much time around her you will see that it is the perfect first word for her! For those of you who haven't seen her do this I will explain so that it makes a little more sense. Ever since she was just a tiny, brand-new baby Rylee has loved to be scared! Chad chases her around the floor and she squeals and runs and laughs until she can't breath. Even the kids at daycare know that all they had to do to make her laugh is get right in her face and say boo really loud! Even before she was old enough to sit up on her own, I would come to pick her up after class and she would be sitting in her seat with the kids all circled around her where they could take turns saying boo and watch her laugh! Now that she can walk they have fun hiding behind the furniture and then jumping out to scare her. It probably sounds pretty weird because most babies don't like to be scared, but with Ry the better you can scare her the harder she laughs. So it is no big suprise that her first word is BOO!!! We were really excited about her learning to talk so we have been trying to teach her other words. We point at something and then say "book", or "ball", or "cup" and then Rylee points at it and says "boo!" So for now everything is "boo!" The best part is how much it cracks her up! She will be sitting in the living room playing with her toys, and from the kitchen we hear this "boo!" and then 5 minutes of laughing at herself! It is pretty hilarious!

Epiphany

I know this is my 3rd post this week, but it was too funny (or scary) to pass up. While trying to think of the right word for this experience I had to consult a dictionary, but it turns out the word "epiphany" hit it right on the nose. Epiphany - a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initiated by some simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience. This is exactly what this experience was. Rylee was really hper this afternoon, but I knew she had to be tired because she hadn't taken a morning nap. So, finally I just put her in the crib to wait for her to go to sleep. I could hear her sitting in there jabbering and playing for a while, then she went quiet. I figured she had probably just finally gotten tired and fallen asleep so I went in to check on her. This is what I found:

Here is the epiphany part - have you ever seen one of those kids that is just completely out of control and wonder if their parents ever looked at him/her and contemplated how they ended up in this situation? Wonder how they didn't see it happening all along? I caught a glimpse into the future when I played this back and realized that this is that moment for me. When your child is too tired to even lay down before falling asleep, you have to wonder what the future holds ...

Hogle Zoo Trip

I am finally putting pictures up from our trip to the zoo last Saturday. We sat and watched the bird show (which was much more exciting than we had thought it would be!) and took Rylee around to see all the animals. She is in that stage where she points at things, so it was fun to know that she could actually see the animals and get excited about them. She especially liked the elephants because they were pretty close to the fence and they were eating so there was lots of action to see!! She also really liked watching the birds fly overhead during the bird show.

Ouchies and Frosting

Rylee got her first real injury this week: she slid down the driveway on her face. :(

Fortunately, this week she also discovered chocolate frosting!!
