Lovin' This Nice Weather

After a long winter stuck inside the house, we are loving this warm weather! The kids are soaking up every minute of running around the park, playing with the neighbors and flying kites with Daddy and Uncle Mikey. Yay for spring!!

Finally Some Snow!

We have been waiting all winter for enough snow to build a good sledding hill in our front yard. We finally gave up on that idea for this year, but we got one last snow storm last week and Ry decided to take advantage of it!

I was such a mean mom and made Jayden try it, too. Hopefully by next year he will be a little more into it!

And Talking!!

Jayden seems determined to grow up completely before he even turns one year old! He has starting saying his first words now, too. (Not just sounds that mimic a real word, but a couple of words that he actually associates with the right things!) A week or two ago he started saying "ball" whenever he saw one and then at church (in the middle of Sacrament Meeting, by the way) he pointed to the hymn book and started yelling "book". (Luckily we have 9,000 little kids in our ward so the people sitting around us are always very tolerant of a little outburst or two. Well, maybe not 9,000 but there are over 40 sunbeams with Rylee this year, so that gives you an idea of how elbow-deep in kids we are!)

Of course, the day J first started talking his daddy was out of town on an install job. So this was my best attempt at getting him to talk on camera. You can hear the faint "ball" sounds even though J seems to have some stage fright in front of the camera.

Jayd is Walking!!!

Jayden is officially walking! He is even walking more than crawling this weekend. He seems determined to keep up with his big sister. (Ry started walking just before 10 months old and Jayd is just over 10 months.) He is so cute, especially when he gets to where he was going and claps for himself. Why do my babies grow up so fast? Part of me gets so excited each time he stands up and starts walking, but a little part of me also wants to run over and push him down. Hmmm... Mostly, though, I am just proud of how fast these kids learn and how active they are!

Hide-and-Seek Champion

This kid is going to be a master at hide-and-seek! It would be cute if I didn't lose him so often ...

Handy Daddy

Rylee is getting so big. We knew she would need a regular-sized bed soon (even though she loved her Tinkerbell toddler bed) so we started planning for it a couple months ago.

The other problem to tackle was that I was ready for them to be in the same room (so I could have an office back!) Our bedrooms aren't very big, though, so we weren't sure how to get them both in.

So the obvious solution was a bunkbed. But our 10-month-old wouldn't be ready for a twin-sized bed for a long, long time. This is why I am so lucky to have such an amazingly smart and handy husband. He designed a bunkbed that would work with our crib! (Then when J is big enough we can add the regular sized bed in place of the crib.) It took a lot of measuring and designing before we were finally ready to start, but once he got going Chad whipped it up in no time!

Most of the building he did in our garage (he's very lucky to have a great boss who lets him borrow their nice tools). Then I got to help by painting it black to match the crib and dresser. (P.S. This is a HUGE bed and we went through a ton of paint. Although a lot of it did end up on my hands, arms, knees, feet, face ...)

Rylee and I picked out monkey sheets that she absolutely loves and she spent a lot of time practicing on the ladder.

This weekend the project was finally done and Ry got to spend her first night in her new bed! And the best part about Chad making the bed from scratch is that he built it strong enough to hold the whole family! Now Ry and I can lay up there together to read stories before bed. The only thing keeping Jayden out is his short little legs. Too bad that won't last long!

It might take a little while for the kids to adjust to sharing a room, though. They just love playing together way too much. Needless to say, we have had a couple of very tired kiddos around our house the last few days. I'm sure this bed will provide years of fun for these two!!

Daddy's Shop

Someday Daddy will have his very own shop to build in and a place for his tools to live. Until then the garage will just have to pull double duty!
