Potty Training Success

I haven't posted anything for several days because I didn't want to jinx us, but Rylee has been doing awesome with her potty training!  In fact, she hasn't had a single accident since Friday morning.

Wednesday afternoon we hit a turning point and finally figured out what would work for Rylee.  We had been taking a pretty aggressive approach to begin with (asking her every couple minutes if she needed to sit on the potty and forcing her to try every half hour or so).  Wednesday afternoon, though, we decided to take a step back and try giving her a little more independence.  We put the potty in the living room and told her it was there when she needed it, then left it alone.  That was the trick because she has stopped holding it for five or six hours at a time and we have only had one accident since then!

Thursday she earned enough stickers for her second potty prize: a furry, squishy caterpillar.

Then by Friday evening she had enough stickers for her third prize, a flashlight.  (She thought this was hilarious while we were taking the picture, but when I showed it to her after she started to cry and said it was too scary!)

Saturday we didn't have any accidents, but she reverted back to holding it for half the day again.  We went to Walgreens and were looking at the Halloween decorations when she started doing the potty dance.  We are still at the point where when she says she has to go it means she has to go now.  So we ran off in search of the potty.  I was extremely unprepared, though, and had no idea where the bathrooms were in the store.  After running around to all of the corners of the store we finally found it.  Rylee was so upset by this point, though, that she refused to go and ended up holding it for several more hours before calming down enough to use the potty at home.

First thing Sunday morning, though, she got the last sticker she needed for another prize.  Here she is showing me her Barbie coloring book.

We may have had a rocky start, but Rylee is doing so fantastic now!  Look at all those stickers.
